Now, this post was clearly intended to go up during the holidays, but hey, perhaps it can serve as inspiration to host more gatherings during this dull and grey season! It also works perfectly as an introduction to a brand-new category I've added to the blog: Homemaking.
This will be the category that fully allows me to embrace my inner Martha Stewart and share everything from recipes to home remedies, organisation tips, and decor ideas. On top of that, I hope to welcome a new furry addition to my family in the coming weeks. Naturally, this will also be the space where you’ll find all things pet-related.
With that housekeeping out of the way (pun intended ;)), let’s dive into the topic you actually came here for! But first, I want to give credit where it’s due.

There are only a handful of people on YouTube I’ve followed consistently for over a decade, and they all happen to be women living in the idyllic British countryside, with one of my faves being Josie Irons (@josieldn). In this video (click!) during her most recent Vlogmas, she invited Grant (@the_royal_butler) onto her channel.
Grant, who previously worked as a royal butler for the late Queen of England at Buckingham Palace, shared the exact details that go into a proper royal table setting. And of course, I was taking notes!

To make things easier to visualise, I’ve created a diagram showing the precise setup Grant taught Josie. The plate I’ve drawn, by the way, is from one of my fave tableware brands, Pick a Poppy (click!)
A brilliant tip Grant shared is to use your thumb as a measuring tool. This ensures everything is spaced correctly without needing to carry a ruler or tape measure.
Of course, let’s not take this too seriously! I simply thought it was an interesting and fun tidbit to share in case you’re feeling inspired to host a fancy event sometime soon — or even just to zhuzh up a weekday dinner. Because after all, why not make life a little more festive when we can?
Over n’ out, peeps!
